Crafting Functionality with Flair

When we were designing our own personal home, we already had (2) kids and knew that we were going to have a few more. With that being said, it’s obvious why we made functionality such an important part of the design. These are our recommendations on how to make your whole-house renovation or new build a more functional and useful space for the entire family.

Seamless Transitions for the Win: Forget about having a raised threshold between transitioning floor materials. Opt for seamless transitions—because who needs tripping hazards? Plus, it's a breeze to clean. Less drama, more swiffering.  With some pre-construction planning (our specialty) all of your floor heights can be done seamlessly with nothing raised above the other.

Induction Cooktops: Where Functionality Meets Efficiency: Say goodbye to scrubbing grates. Induction cooktops not only cook faster but are sleek, easy to clean, and perfect for channeling your inner master chef without the mess. I'm a gas convert – I never thought I'd stray from a gas cooktop, but I will never .

Toilet Chic: Wall-Hung Elegance: Cleaning around a toilet just got a makeover. Embrace wall-hung toilets for a minimalist look and, let's be honest, fewer nooks for dust bunnies to hide.

Eave-tastic Living: Large Overhangs Rule: Make a statement with overhangs—24 inches or more. Keep rain and sun at bay, protect your abode, and give your space a cool, shaded vibe. Sunscreen for your home.

Mudrooms & Laundry Duets: Winter-Proof Functionality: Winter chaos meets its match. Waterproofed mudroom floors (thanks, Kerdi membrane!) ensure no wet mess enters your home. Add a laundry setup for superhero-level multitasking.

Open Sesame: Wide Hallways and Doors: Banish the feeling of navigating a cramped tunnel. Wider hallways and doors make moving furniture a breeze, turning your home into a spacious sanctuary. Welcome to the grand hallway affair. One thing we can't help with -- Let us know if you find a way to keep your kids hands off the hallway walls…

Curb-Less Showers: Functionality with Future Vision: Step into a bathroom that's ready for anything. Curb-less showers make the space future-proof—handicap accessible and water disasters averted. Drips and slips, be gone! Have some fun with the shower glass layout and consider eliminating the door for a more simplistic look.

Dust-Defying Floors: Lighter Colors Shine: Show dust and scratches they're not invited to this party. Light-colored floors are the superhero capes of the design world—camouflaging life's little messes with style.

Faucets on the Wall: Cleaning Made Chic: Meet the wall-mounted faucet—a game-changer for countertop cleanliness. No more battling scum rings around the faucet base. Your countertops deserve a pedestal, not a grime crown.

Now armed with these tips, go forth and remodel like a boss. Because why settle for just a pretty home when you can have one that laughs in the face of spills and tripping hazards? Your dream space awaits!
